Who is Mashuu?

He is a clarinetist who can traverse dimensions with only a snap of his fingers. People from the many dimensions he visited have praised his skill at the instrument. However, Mashuu doesn't think he really is the prodigious clarinetist that everyone hails him as.Mashuu also has a "one of a kind" Pokémon - a Sylveon that can Mega Evolve.

Here's the most recent song Mashuu has played on his clarinet...

DECO*27 - Monitoring

Things about Mashuu

Mashuu likes to flaunt the fact that he's a clarinetist a bit too often. The main reason why does this was due to how instrumentalists in his home dimension garnered a lot more of a following than your usual modern celebrities. Everyone valued the difficulty of the performance one would give, and most skilled instrumentalists would end up being the good few described. The one difference Mashuu had compared to everyone else was his massive skill with his clarinet, especially at a young age. Almost every symphony wanted to recruit him as the soloist, and while he did please a select few by joining, Mashuu didn't enjoy performing with them.During his mid-teen years, Mashuu suddenly discovered that he had the ability to hop between dimensions at will. There was hardly a reason for him to actually use this except to maybe cut down on his older friends' commute times. However, a sudden cataclysmic event would strike the entirety of his home dimension, and in spite of predicting it and taking everything that he needed, he couldn't save a single person. No friends, no family. Mashuu was now an orphan in another dimension.

How did he get a "Mega Sylveon," as he calls her?

In another dimension, Mashuu found a Sylveon roaming the streets of his neighborhood. He quickly recognized her as one of the few that could Mega Evolve. She was also the defining feature of a trainer's team that won back-to-back World Championships years ago. Dumbfounded, Mashuu raced outside and asked if he could let her stay in his house for a bit... and also for an autograph. Fortunately for him, the Sylveon obliged, and they stayed inside for longer than a bit. When they went inside, Mashuu asked about why the Sylveon, the star of a former World Champion's team, would hit the road by herself. It turns out that she suffered through an abusive relationship with her former trainer, and she wanted to run away from him. This leads into the Sylveon asking for new ownership after wandering for years by herself. Despite her past fame, she doesn't seem to be desired by anyone because of her independent decision of deserting her old trainer... except Mashuu. He always had an adoration for Sylveon, but he never had the chance to have one for himself until now. After Mashuu asked if she could go under a different name, being Maeko, and if she could go under the ownership and care of Mashuu, Maeko agreed almost instantly.Maeko actually hasn't known that Mashuu can travel through dimensions until not long ago, where he had to do so in order to escape from yet another cataclysmic event. They would end up in our world, inhabiting an apartment with a college student as a roommate. Since then, the two have never spoken about this incident and try their best to stay silent about it.

The Origin of the Channel

The year after Maeko escaped from her abusive trainer was when she made a YouTube channel about the plenty of games she liked to play. Not long after, Mashuu finally found out about the channel, and he asked if he could do his own things on it because of Maeko's hiatus. What Mashuu has planned is more or less a mystery, but he has told his friends that he will go down a similar path as them; Mashuu will play whatever game catches his eyes, including the ones Maeko played. However, he will also be very different from them, as he desires to share the same experience that he had as a clarinetist from his home dimension.

TL;DR

Mashuu is a skilled clarinetist that can travel through dimensions, but he had to in order to "survive" cataclysmic events. Maeko is a Sylveon that can Mega Evolve, formerly owned by a 5-time World Champion that abused her but is now under Mashuu's ownership. They live together and try their best to forget their past.

What does Mashuu cover?

In short, Mashuu mostly plays J-Pop and vocaloid songs.Think of songs from YOASOBI, inabakumori, and any other Japanese artist that makes those genres of songs (even though the term "vocaloid" is too broad now). You can scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Cover Status" button to see what Mashuu has covered in the past and will try in the future. Mashuu isn't too consistent with releasing covers, so it may seem like a cover is out once in a blue moon.

Why does he cover those songs?

The main reason why he does is because of how this seems to be a relatively unexplored niche, at least on YouTube. There are countless covers of inabakumori's Lagtrain on YouTube, for example, but Mashuu currently seems to have the only clarinet cover of this song.Additionally, since Maeko got him into playing Geometry Dash for most of his free time, Mashuu also occasionally posts his covers on Newgrounds. This is so most players do not have to go through a hassle of adding a song that is not on NG. He gets a bit annoyed when a level uses an irrelevant SongID to replace song that's been covered by a NG artist, and he never wants to have other players feel the same way towards a "NONG" level.Though Mashuu rarely streams, the way he presents himself is basically the same as the many VTubers you have seen in the recent past. There is a growing number of other VTubers who also specialize in playing instruments, which means Mashuu may also get a chance at playing in another symphony filled with them not long from now.

Using Mashuu's Covers

It's me, Mashuu, appreciating your interest in my covers. I have prepared a bunch of guidelines that I wish for you to follow... starting with:

Permitted Use Cases

  • Background music

  • Animations

  • Songs in video game levels

For Geometry Dash players, if you're building a level using a different version of a song that I've covered, or if no other remake exists on Newgrounds, I highly encourage you to use my cover on NG as your SongID. I'm a whitelisted artist, which means basically any audio submission I have posted on NG is allowed for use. Do not repost any songs (including my covers or the original songs) on NG unless you made your own song or remake - they strive on making sure everything posted there is their users' own work, and they're quite committed to enforcing that rule. This also makes it much easier for mobile players who may not be able to load in any other version of the song, which may also include the original. Should you prefer another version of the song, I recommend you align your preferred version with my cover on NG through the use of audio editing software like Audacity. My covers are usually in the same tempo as the originals, so it shouldn't be too troublesome for many.In other cases, don't forget to credit me in some form. I'd prefer something like this:DECO*27 - Monitoring (Clarinet cover by Mega Mashuu)

You don't need to follow this format all the time, but any attempt is better than none.

Not Permitted Use Cases

  • Content for 18+

  • Any disrespectful/hate-related cases

  • Training AI

  • Re-uploads without permission

Basically "common sense" in one form or another. I don't condone any harassment, whether it's to a GD level creator or the song's original artist. Please check the usage guidelines, permissions, etc. from the songs' original artists before using my covers for a permitted reason.
